As adults we play a major role in the development of the language skills of our kids. Language provides the tools for success for children at school and beyond - making them confident and skilled communicators. Reading, writing, making friends, expressing their needs and shaping their thoughts.
As we go about our daily lives, the more we talk to children about what we are doing, chat about what we see (whether we're in the park, car or supermarket!) the more they learn about the world around them.
We can share books with children even when they don't understand what all those funny squiggles, dots and crosses mean. By simply talking about pictures and characters they'll have fun learning and won't even know they're doing it!
As well as snuggling up next to them and reading, we can sing with them, help them to join in with rhymes and games and enjoy playing with sounds and words.
This website will give you lots of ideas to help your child become a chatterbox!
